Minnesota Suns
PROGRAM HISTORY Peter Long, founder of the MN Suns, along with his family has had a love of basketball for many years. When the Long kids were old enough, they joined the world of AAU basketball, to expand and improve their skills. This was preparation to help them reach their dreams of playing high school and college basketball. However after a few seasons of sitting on the sidelines, it was time to start a new program. That is when the Minnesota Suns program was created. Our mission is simple: provide an environment where basketball players can develop and improve their skills in order to achieve their basketball dreams.
Since 2005, our two girls basketball teams have grown to over 20 competitive teams and we are just getting started! While the jerseys have changed, the coaching staff has grown and the teams have multiplied, our mission is still the same: we coach and encourage all of our players to believe in themselves, their basketball dreams and goals, while developing leadership skills both on and off the basketball court. Starting with our 4th graders up to high school juniors, we are committed to helping players develop their natural skills and abilities to be able to reach their next level, whatever that may be.
Dre Jefferson has recently been named the new MN Suns Club Director. In 2012, Dre joined the MN Suns family as a skills trainer and head coach. He took over our skills development sessions and transformed them into Sunday Skills academy, which is now a cornerstone of our program. With numerous players from his teams going on to play collegiate basketball, Dre has implemented a development process that works for kids and is now being applied to the entire MN Suns program. Under Dre Jefferson's leadership, the core components to the culture of MN Suns basketball will be high expectations, commitment to excellence and a work ethic that matches the goals set.
